#beboldforchange - LADIES, I hold my hand over my heart and pray for you that we can one day reach gender equality and that my daughter can grow in todays world and become everything she dreams she can be.
In honoring todays day, a day that is truly dedicated to acknowledging women with the theme centered around - 'be bold for change' - International women's day is pivotal in recognizing the achievements of women in every realm of society be it political, social, cultural or economical. The need for this present moment for gender equality of women globally is matter that needs to be continually acknowledged. A powerful day in my eyes - former generations of women coming together to collaborate in forms of social movement, arts and social media to acknowledge what former and present women have had to overcome for womens rights!
Originally this day was called 'international womens working day' - I must admit I actually resonate with the current name a lot more then its predecessor!
This day was officially marked in the calender by the United Nations in 1975 . However if we look closely back at history this day has nearly being observed since the 1900s in some parts of the world.
Being a women, mother, wife, lover, worker, leader and daughter - we seem to have a lot of hats to fill in one day! We as women are incredible in the fact that we can manage so many of these tasks all in one day!
I today salut many of the incredible women that have changed and made there presence felt and shaped who I am today. We as women in todays society are now illustrating and writing our own adventures and for this we should be immensely proud. We need to believe in what we can achieve - as the success lies in the quality of the journey and reaching that goal. However there is still a dangerous gap and there is still so much work to be done for women to achieve full gender equality across the world. This gap still hasn't been realized and we are quite along way off before reaching this.
So take a moment for yourself - recognize your achievements and be honest and humble in your approach. We as women are incredible and as a movement we can create traction for change - remembering that movement is far better then remaining still!
